Devon Mathews is an award-winning screenwriter, director, producer, and performing artist from San Antonio, TX. Additionally, Devon is a seasoned method actor, voice coach, and founder and lead vocalist of DevSoul, her band of 18 years. DevSoul has opened and sang live background vocals for Jagged Edge, Dwele, Eric Roberson, Carl Thomas, Chico DeBarge, Next, Rome, Brian Angel of Day 26, and more. On the Jazz spectrum, Devon has sang with Billy Ray Sheppard, Kyle Turner, Althea Renee, Michael Ward, Marion Meadows, and was the “Chaka Khan” for Tom Browne of Rufus while he was in town to perform Funkin for Jamaica. Whether solo, trio, or full band, DevSoul is your ultimate live band experience with 3 bands in rotation including an all girl band.
Devon began her professional acting career at the age of 7 in the "The Colored Museum" at the Carver Cultural Theater in San Antonio, Texas. After high school, she attended Texas State University and pursued her BFA in acting. She is the founder and lead singer of her band, DevSoul, and is a professional actor, singer, voice actor, dancer, plus model, writer, poet, and performing arts teacher in the greater San Antonio, TX. Notable castings include: Dreamgirls, Chicago, Hair, RENT, and a host of Gospel plays and shows within the San Antonio community.
Devon also curated the inaugural DreamStage Sunday show at the historic Pearl for MLK DreamWeek 2024. The show featured some of the most stellar musicians in the Alamo city. DevSoul was also honored to play the Mayor’s Ball to close out DreamWeek 2024 and made history as the first band to play the prestigious event. She has also founded her own performing arts company, Art Noir Productions, and has produced shows such as Christmas in Black Vl. 1 & 2 (Dec. 2022 and 2023) and The Third Day (Easter 2023). Christmas in Black Vol. III is scheduled for Nov. 30, 2024 at the Edgewood Performing Arts Center at 7:00 pm.
This year was a year of faith for Devon. She wrote and directed her first short film, Brother's Keeper Book 3: Tamara and The King, and urban re-telling of the Bible story found in Genesis Chapter 38. The film has won multiple awards for Best Christian Film, Best Christian Filmmaker, Best Indie Short Film, Best Director, Best Original Song for Hot Coffee, and countless Official Selections around the globe. New scripts are currently in the works.
With a passion for our armed forces and the daughter of an Air Force veteran, Devon prides herself in donating her time to sing to veterans and military personnel year round and especially during the holidays. She also teaches private voice lessons and works to help aspiring singers and actors polish and hone their vocal instrument. Devon wrote, casted, and directed her first film, Brother's Keeper 3: Ta'Mara and The King in San Antonio. With stars such as Erika Franklin, Will Moleon, LonHendre Keggins, and Garrett Norvell, many actors came from all over the country to participate in the film, which is a part of the Brother's Keeper series by Exec. Producer Steve Hartfield and DP Rogelio Chavez of Rogy Pro Productions.. The film premiered in May 2024.

"Consensus Gentium" is a powerful exploration into the implications of today's AI technology. It is an interactive film that integrates cutting-edge facial detection and AI, which transports audiences on a unique quest to discover what could come about if we succumb to unchecked surveillance. Using various tests, their dissidence or compliance is calculated, by monitoring data by the devices’ front-facing camera.
"Consensus Gentium" is made with the support of the BFI’s Film Development Fund, National Lottery, is part of the Future Art and Culture programme at SXSW produced by British Underground and funded by Arts Council England with additional support in 2023 from the British Council.
Devon Mathews of San Antonio served as principal actress in the only live XR experience at SxSW 2023. And Devon helped this amazing team win the Jury Award foe Best XR Exhibition, the only one with a live actor.
